About this site
I started the site in July 2026 to document my mushroom grow log, and cultivate a community of like-minded mycophiles.
The name, Piercing through the Veil, is a nod to the universal veil that encloses a young mushroom before it tears open as the cap expands. But for me, it represents an inquisitive mindset that desires to explore the unknown.
My focus here is on the esoteric side of mycology. I'm less interested in the common cultivars and more obsessed with the challenge of cloning wild specimens. I spend my time documenting the transition from a random find in the damp leaf litter to an isolated culture on an agar plate, and eventually, to a successful flush in a controlled indoor environment or an outdoor garden bed.
This blog is a living record of that process. You'll find detailed species profiles, technical guides on substrate formulation, and honest cultivation logs, including the contaminated jars and failed spawns. In the future, I plan to add a subscription that provides access to more detailed documentation of my cultivation experiments. If you're curious about the grit and patience required to grow the strange things, you're in the right place.
